Cashing in like Kylie – 3 More Lessons in Personal Branding

Cashing in like Kylie – 3 More Lessons in Personal Branding

*Image is still from Kylie's Office Tour Video

Ok folks - its time for another lesson in personal branding, and its coming from Billionaire #BossBabe Kylie Jenner. I peruse the internet daily...yes its my job, but even more than that, I like it. Its a millennial thing, I get it. So, as I was scrolling through TikTok - part of my nightly routine - I saw someone post a little snippet of Kylie Jenner going in to wake up her daughter Stormi. When she entered the room, she happened to casually sing a little ditty "rise and shine." Totally made up. Totally spontaneous.

Well, as per usj...the internet was all over it. Memes popped up all over the place! People were doing remixes, they were sharing it on TikTok (how I found it), and Arianna Grande even shot Kylie a message asking if she could sample it.

Kylie, being the business woman she is, said YES to ALL the things! Yes to the sampling, yes to the viral memes, and yes to owning the fact that a casual 3 word phrase is now a part of her personal brand. Oh! But I am not done. She quickly got her design team on it and now has Rise and Shine Hoodies on kyliejennershop.com

Can we say #bossmoves? So, let's get to some tangibles we can learn from this.

Lesson 1: CEO's Recognize Opportunity

And this what a CEO does. They see opportunity for the business and the brand to expand, and they ride the wave. They cash in. They monetize that which is available to monetize RIGHT NOW!

Conversely, I have seen lots of celebrities in the same viral position who have NOT been quick to understand how virality and cashflow work.

In today's digital world, your ability to see the path to profit matters! Further, its not just seeing it, its monetizing it. So...for you reading this, take notes my friends! This is how its done.

Lesson 2: CEOS's Take Action FAST!

This is a simple conversation of arbratge. Who knows what the true lifespan of the memes would be. Not the point, #TeamKylie is taking full advantage and controlling the narrative. And they did it FAST! SHE is now in control, not the internet.

Lesson 3: CEO's Have the Right People in Play

To be fair, who knows whos idea it was to monetize this whole sitch. If it wasn't Kylie herself, well she has some stellar people on her team - they know the brand and they have vision. Well done!

It could be time for you to stop sitting on the sidelines and start warming up to get in the game! Because time is ticking, and you're likely leaving lots of money on the table.

If we need to have a conversation to get you going in the right direction - you know how to find me!

When someone comes to me with a cash flow problem in their business its likely going to be one of these things. These are in no particular order:

  1. Your positioning is off.
  2. You’ve spent a lot of time perfecting the product, but not the sales and marketing strategy.
  3. You are showing up as a catchall, a jack-of-all-trades, but master of none.
  4. You are doing the most!
  5. You don’t take your business seriously.
  6. You’re content is not good.
  7. You aren’t giving enough value up front.
  8. You don’t have a true path to profit.
  9. Too focused on sales, not enough focus on relationship building
  10. You are underestimating the process
  11. You’re letting your doubts get the best of you
  12. You are in the wrong environment
  13. You don’t have a good relationship with money

Social Sidenotes Episode 6: Live Life on Brand!

Live your life on brand, always and unapologetically!

Sometimes you just forget. Seriously. You forget to make choices that are on brand - because it seems inconvenient, because you don't want to offend anyone, because... you slip back in to old habits, or some combination of all of the above.

I recently took a trip to Las Vegas - and I experienced something that many of us do from  time to time. I simply forgot myself! I forgot that I could shift. I forgot to stand in my power. I forgot to make a new choice.

In this podcast, I am sharing all of that with you and what I had to do to shake it off and shift.

Happy Listening!

Short Term Goals + Long Term VISION

Sadly... A lot of people have this false sense of what success looks like. They think that ROI on time $ money should be immediate. Like... If it doesn't happen in 30 days, something is wrong and they are frustrated. They look at social media posts of all the successful people they admire and think that a 7/8 figure income happened with 62 hours worth of effort. 💥News Flash💥 Nope. Just because you became aware of them yesterday doesn't mean they started yesterday. I promise, 99% of them have been working towards where they are now for at least a decade. All of their life's experiences have led up to this point. Even the not so good stuff. Marie Forleo's first video was 8 years ago (but she was a coach before that). Elon Musk started his first business in 1995. Gary Vee made thousands of dollars at a lemonade stand back in the 80s. Oprah got her start in TV 40 years ago. See a pattern here? Get rich quick schemes don't exist in the minds of legends. If you're constantly focusing on your next dollar, and not focusing on longterm legacy in your industry then we need to course correct NOW! Short term goals are great. They should be benchmarks, not end games. Map out quarterly, short term goals, but make sure that you have a long term vision to sustain it.

Exposed!!!

Dr. Tracy Timberlake EXPOSED

Candid shots. Gotta love 'em! Sometimes they end up being the ones you use for social. Sometimes... Not lol. Yesterday talked about story telling. A good candid/behind the scenes shot can go a long way... But today we are talking about something else.

With all this technology, don't be surprised when I tell you that everything you say and do is being stored somewhere.

Social media, the internet, your "private" Facebook account, your cell phone, Alexa... Yup! Big Brother may or may not be watching... How does that make you feel?
Not telling you this to freak you out.

If anything, I hope it inspires you to live a life of authenticity and integrity.

Show up as yourself and you won't have to feel like you're "going to be made" at any moment.

And when it comes to #personalbranding, ie branding YOU, authenticity matters a great deal! And and I always say, it takes a great deal of energy to be something thank you're not. So... Might as well be yourself. Unapologetically.

If you start from there... Exposure actually becomes a good thing! (unless you're a terrible person... In which case, we need to have a different conversation. 😂)

You Create the Want!

"If I would have asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." - Henry Ford

Love this quote... Someone on my LIVE stream asked a question about their market and we had a great conversation about leadership.

Did Ford focus on some new horse training program to make horses faster? Did he become a horse breeder? Did he create horse supplements that gave them superpower speed?

Nope. He invented the model T. And all of us have been reaping the benefits of that decision ever since. 🙌🏾 Hallelujah! Thats leadership. The ability to see beyond what people want and create products/programs/systems, etc accelerate or enhance their experience. Revolutionary Leadership requires innovation... Walt Disney did this. And so did Steve Jobs with #Apple. No one" wanted" a touch screen phone. If you would have asked them what they wanted at the time, they probably would have said a cheaper blackberry. Instead, he created something entirely new, unprecedented, that was actually more expensive - the exact opposite. Then he MADE people want it!

Michael #Bloomberg started his company after being fired and was a pioneer in providing high-quality financial data to Wall Street. That kind of synthesis didn't exist before he created it.

All that to say, sometimes people don't know what they want until they are exposed to it. Your job as a leader is to be the one that does that - exposition. Your work is in showing your people what's available to them and how they can attain it.
Thats #marketing 101 - you create the want!

Start thinking about how you can start to do this for your people 🙂
